THE DETAILS THAT MATTER.
For a useful quote, specify the diameter, pitch, overall and threaded length, material or grade, finish, quantity and packing. A drawing is helpful for nonstandard end details.
What to send with an RFQ
- Product name or a reference photo
- Diameter, thread pitch and length
- Material, grade and finish
- Quantity, packing and destination
These are request fields, not claims that every combination is in stock.
DEFINE THE THREAD.
SPECIFY THE COATING.
Thread fit, coating requirements and order details to confirm for zinc-plated rods.
Zinc-plated threaded rods combine an external screw thread with a zinc coating specified for the order. Selecting the rod requires both a mechanical specification and a coating specification. Tell LD Screw the complete thread, finished length, material and grade, zinc coating requirements, quantity and mating-nut details so the quotation describes the assembly you need.
Confirmed ordering information: Property classes 8.8 and 12.9; rod lengths 1.5 m, 1.8 m, 2.0 m and 2.5 m. Thread diameter and pitch are specified by the customer. The requested grade, length tolerance, coating system and inspection requirements are confirmed together in the quotation.
Start with the thread and coating specification
A request for a “galvanized rod” can leave the coating process unclear. State whether the project calls for electroplated zinc or hot-dip galvanizing, and identify the required coating standard. The process, finish condition and mating-thread requirements should be agreed together.
| RFQ item | Information to provide | Reason to include it |
|---|---|---|
| Thread | Metric diameter and pitch, or inch diameter, threads per inch and thread series; include the specified fit. | The complete designation identifies the required mating thread. |
| Length and ends | Ordering lengths: 1.5 m, 1.8 m, 2.0 m and 2.5 m. State the finished length, tolerance and any end-treatment requirement. | The required delivery length and end condition must be clear. |
| Material and grade | Property classes 8.8 and 12.9. State the requested class and material designation. | Thread size and a silver appearance do not establish mechanical properties. |
| Coating system | Process, coating standard, required thickness or designation, and any passivation, top-coat or lubrication requirement. | “Zinc plated” alone may not describe the finish your project requires. |
| Mating nuts | Nut thread, grade, finish, quantity and any assembly or gauging criteria. | The coated rod and nut need to be reviewed as a matching combination. |
| Order and inspection | Quantity, bundles or pallets, destination, requested documents and any specified coating test. | These details support the quotation, packing and acceptance plan. |
Zinc electroplating and hot-dip galvanizing
ISO 4042 covers electroplated coating systems for fasteners. ISO 10684 addresses hot-dip galvanized coatings for fasteners. These publisher scope summaries identify different coating specifications; the applicable process and standard must come from your drawing or purchase requirement. They are not evidence that a photographed rod meets either standard.
Include the service environment and any required corrosion-test standard, test duration and acceptance criterion. A named coating, colour or product photo does not establish a particular corrosion-test result. For finish terminology, see our surface finishes guide.
Confirm nut fit after the coating is specified
The coating requirement belongs in the same review as the thread tolerance and mating nut. Include both components when requesting an assembly. Tell us whether nuts are supplied loose or need to be checked against an agreed assembly or gauging requirement. See our hex nuts and the fully threaded rod specification guide.
Common zinc-plated rod questions
Does “galvanized” always mean the same coating process?
No. Ask for the actual process and coating specification. A purchasing list that says only “galvanized” should be clarified before comparing it with an electroplated-zinc quotation.
Can I identify the coating from a bright silver photo?
No. The photo illustrates the product form. Specify the process, coating designation and inspection requirements rather than using appearance as the acceptance criterion.
Which rod lengths can I request?
Ordering lengths include 1.5 m, 1.8 m, 2.0 m and 2.5 m. Specify the required length tolerance, quantity, end condition and bundle or pallet preferences. For another length, send the requirement for review before the order is confirmed.
Can matching nuts be included?
Include the nut specification and pieces required per rod. Identify the rod and nut grades, finishes and fit requirements together; an approximate diameter match is not a complete assembly specification.
How should I request coating inspection documents?
Name the required inspection or test, acceptance criterion and reporting format in the RFQ. Ask for the specific records needed for the order before production; this page does not promise a standard test result for every size and finish.
Request a zinc-plated threaded rod quotation
Send the drawing or purchasing list, thread designation and fit, length and tolerance, material and grade, coating system, matching nuts, quantity, packing and destination. Include any coating-process controls or inspection requirements specified for the project. Visit our workshop, then send your rod and coating requirements for review.
READY TO DISCUSS?
For a precise quotation, include the product name, dimensions, material, grade, finish, quantity and destination. We review the actual specification before quoting.
